Daniel Kopcso

With several years in the Automation and Operational Technology industry, Daniel Kopcso leads as Automation Manager of Champion's New Orleans, Louisiana location. In his role as Automation Manager, he builds relationships with clients, ensures technical excellence from the Automation Engineering teams, and aids in overall business development efforts.

Daniel joined the Champion team in 2014 as an entry level Automation Engineer in Champion's Lake Charles office. In 2018, Champion identified Daniel as an excellent candidate to contribute to the development and success of our New Orleans office. After aiding the rapid growth of the office by establishing new partnership with local clients, Daniel transitioned to the role of New Orleans Automation Manager in 2022.

Before joining the Champion team, Daniel worked at a sonar company, automating internal processes. As an Automation Engineer at Champion, Daniel's core work includes providing automation solutions for clients in several industries, including energy, oil & gas, specialty chemicals, mining, food & beverage, and agriculture.

Daniel holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University.

With 10 years of experience in the industrial automation field, Kevin Castille leads as the Automation Manager for the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and capital area market. In his role as Automation Manager, he builds strategic client relationships and ensures delivery of automation solutions and technical excellence.

Kevin joined the Champion team as an Automation Engineer in 2012. After showcasing his technical acumen, his commitment to excellence, and his knack for mentoring and elevating others, he has taken a leadership role as Automation Manager in our Baton Rouge office.

Kevin’s core work includes providing excellent services and automation solutions for clients in several industries including energy, oil & gas, specialty chemicals, and food & beverage.

Kevin holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from McNeese State University and is a Certified Automation Professional (ISA-CAP).

Asa joined Champion in 2006 as a Co-Op, since then he has held several technical and leadership positions while demonstrating a commitment to delivering outstanding results and exceeding client expectations. In 2022 Asa was promoted to Automation Manager for the Sabine Region (Sulphur, LA & Beaumont, TX).

During Asa’s tenure with Champion, he has led numerous key projects where his exceptional technical leadership and strategic thinking have made lasting impacts on his teams. As Automation Manager he will be responsible for building strategic client relationships and ensuring successful delivery of automation solutions.

Asa earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from McNeese State University, is a Certified Automation Professional (ISA-CAP), and a Certified EIT in Louisiana.

Carl Jarvis

Automation Manager

Carl Jarvis joined the Champion team as the Houston Automation Manager in April 2021. As an Automation Manager, Carl manages client relationships, employees, projects, and business development efforts for Champion’s Houston office. He uses his knowledge of Texas and Louisiana’s refining, petrochemical, and pipeline industries to contribute to our clients’ overall success.

Carl entered the automation industry through an opportunity with a major control systems manufacturer. Since that time, he has scoped and specified a wide range of control system retrofits and expansions. He attributes his success in automation to the technical discipline he learned in the Nuclear Navy.

Carl is a lifelong learner with a strong interest in all aspects of automation and control projects. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Carl is also an alumnus of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program, where he served as the Reactor Controls Division Officer on the USS NIMITZ.

In his spare time, Carl and his wife enjoy spending time with their four children.

Joe Driver

OT Solutions Manager

Joe Driver joined the Champion team as an Automation Engineer in February of 2007. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU in Electrical Engineering, gaining over 15 years of industry experience.

In 2012, Joe was promoted to Senior Automation Engineer, having worked on numerous PLC & DCS implementations – both in the form of new systems and legacy migrations. With a diverse range of industry experience, Joe’s areas of focus include Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream Oil & Gas, Specialty Chemicals, and Manufacturing.

In 2018, Joe transitioned to our Corporate Engineering department as an Application Engineer, focusing predominantly on Champion’s Operational Technology and Industrial Cybersecurity initiatives. Having gained his GICSP certification for cybersecurity, Joe enjoys how Champion focuses on technical excellence and finding the best solution for every client need.

As a member of ISA and throughout his career at Champion, Joe has presented at numerous automation and technology conferences. Most recently, Joe took on the role of OT Solutions Manager, where he is responsible for providing Operational Technology and cybersecurity solutions for clients in many industries, including energy, oil & gas, specialty chemicals, mining, food & beverage, and agriculture.

Jodie Bland

HS&E Specialist

As Champion’s HS&E Specialist, Jodie administers the overall company health, safety, and environmental compliance initiatives through identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards. Since joining the Champion team in 2017, his primary roles include regulatory and customer compliance, performance management, and training & development.

With more than 20 years of combined experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Jodie began his career right out of high school joining the Navy and serving as a Naval Combat Medic (Navy Corpsman) attached to the Marine Corps. Since then he has managed an Urgent Care / Occupational Medical Clinic, worked as Director of Education for a medical vocational school, and as an HSE Professional in the Oil & Gas Maritime industry.

Jodie holds a Bachelor degree in Health Sciences from South University. He also holds various Professional Safety certifications and is a Certified Allied Health Instructor.

In his spare time, Jodie and his wife stay busy volunteering and coaching community youth sports programs and devoting time to their two athletic teenage kids.

Laurie Firmin

As a Recruiter/Human Resources Generalist at Champion Technology Services, Inc. Laurie recruits individuals who have experience, knowledge, and passion for automation while supporting and developing human resource services, programs, and policies. She is responsible for securing and managing Champion’s growing top-notch talent base. Laurie works closely with the Champion Leadership Team nationwide to determine exact qualifications and skills required to meet client and project needs. On the recruiting side, Laurie identifies ideal candidates and negotiates competitive hiring packages to attract and retain valuable employees.

Before joining the Champion team, Laurie was the Director of Human Resources at Ameritas Technologies, where she was responsible for recruitment, employee retention, administration, and office management. She also held the Director of Administration position at Antares Technologies Solutions, a software development consulting company that provides custom software solutions to clients across the U.S.

Laurie leverages her passion for people while continuously developing her knowledge in recruiting and human resources by participation in continuing education workshops, seminars, and trainings. She remains up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices in recruiting and human resources, ensuring Champion’s employees receive the best support and resources available.

Laurie is a member of both the Greater Baton Rouge and New Orleans Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) as well as the National SHRM. She also holds over 20 years of experience in Human Resources.

Brandon Zemlo

Brandon joined Champion as Director of Operations in October 2021 with more than 25 years of systems integration knowledge and experience spanning from Controls Engineering to Business and Operations management. Working in both large and small firms, he comes to Champion with expertise specializing in systems integration for critical infrastructure and mission-critical facilities.

As the Director of Operations, Brandon is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the operating procedures across the company. In addition, he is responsible for developing and leading the Project Management Organization (PMO) and related personnel to achieve quality, consistency, and oversight of the project life cycle execution.

Brandon holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Business Administration from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds patents related to remote machine diagnostics. In his personal time, he enjoys traveling and working on home renovation projects. He is a certified scuba diver and licensed private pilot.

Brad Jordan

Brad Jordan joined Champion in 2005 where he first served as the Business Manager for the Lake Charles, Louisiana location for 12 years. As Business Manager he was responsible for the overall management, growth and development of the automation business. Under Brad’s leadership, the Lake Charles team grew to a several-million dollar organization, conducting major projects for the West Louisiana & East Texas markets.

In 2017, Brad was promoted to Regional Manager for the Gulf Coast Region, which includes Champion's offices extending from Houston, TX to New Orleans, LA. Brad was responsible for the region's overall success through leadership and collaboration within the region.

Brad’s was promoted to Vice President in 2021. As Vice President responsibilities include internal operations performance, customer relations, and financial success of Champion’s automation business.

Brad has 25 years of experience in the automation field. He began his career in automation as an engineering intern/co-op for Reynolds Metals. Before joining the Champion team, he also spent 6 years working for Rockwell Automation. At Rockwell, Brad served as a Project Engineer and later transitioned to an estimation role within the company. Brad holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from McNeese State University.

Throughout his career at Champion, Brad has presented several case studies and informational system/platform-specific presentations at conferences such as the Siemens Automation Summit and Rockwell Process Solutions User Group.

Mehrdad Ghorashi

President

As an early member of the Champion team, Mehrdad has been with the company for over 15 years. He started working with Champion as an Automation Engineer, where he completed several major milestone projects for key oil, gas and petrochemical customers. Mehrdad’s technical expertise in the industry ranges from plant floor automation solutions to business intelligence tools using various technology platforms.

In 2007, Mehrdad became Business Manager of the Baton Rouge and Lafayette locations, and later the New Orleans automation office. In this role, Mehrdad was responsible for managing a team of talented and high-performing automation professionals, growing employees’ career paths, developing new business, and ensuring Champion’s new and existing customers receive high quality solutions, dedicated customer service, and exceptional workmanship. As a result of his commitment to Champion’s customers and to the company, the automation group grew from five employees to over 40, while increasing the depth and breadth of Champion’s provided services. In 2017, Mehrdad was promoted to President. In this role he is responsible for establishing the company's long-term goals and the continued successful growth of Champion.

Mehrdad earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University in 2002. He is a member of the International Society of Automation and actively participates in several industry conferences.
